THE AMAZON IS BEING DESTORYED!?!?!?!?

Bolivia has recently decided to build a 185 mile long highway through the Amazon rainforest. Thousands of protestors have been marching, trying to stop this awful idea from occuring. It will destory biodiversity and destroy so many animals' habitat. Brazil has made a $332 million loan to bolivia so they can create this highway that goes to their capital. Luckily enough, the Bolivian president decided to obey the will of his peopl and cancel the project. It would have greatly hurt the Amazon as a whole.
I am very happy that this project was canceled. It would have greatly hurt the rainforest and all of it's animals. It is very inspiring that the people of Bolivia took a stand and defended the rainforest. Most people would just let it happen without a second thought, but they stood up for what is right. The Earth is in no shape to have one of its most diverse places be fragmented so.

1. How do you feel about the idea of a high way going through the Amazon?
2. If you were a Bolivian, would you stand up against your government?
3. How do you think it would affect the animals?

  2. I highly agree with you Jarrett! This would be a horrible thing to do to one of the worlds most valuable areas. I also find it good that the Bolivian people stood up against there government!

I think a highway going through the rainforest would be terrible to the plants and animals already living there. Most of them would die off from the clearing of the forest, and the pollution from the cars.

  3. it is great to hear about the abortion of this nasty project! Not only would this have hurt the bolivian people, but the amazon rainforest plays an important part in moderation of the co2 in the atmosphere. if this idea was carried out, it would be up to our generation to find a solution to the depletion of forest.

If i was a bolivian, i would be on top of this issue. Violent protest would not be the answer to this, (nor is it the answer to anything) but setting up a petition would be a great way to get the government to respond.

  4. I agree with Jarrett 100%. It is horrible that Bolivia was planning a project to build a long highway through the rain forest! My reflection after reading this is that if I tied this into my life, as if it were my habitat planning to be destroyed, I would be horrified because I would no longer have a place to live.

In answer to Jarrett's question, I feel very strongly about the idea of a highway being built through the Amazon. It is horrible to build a highway through the Amazon. All of the innocent animals that live in the Amazon would become homeless. They did nothing to the humans that should make humans want to destroy their habitat.
