I read an article about a new type of fracking. Fracking for shale natural gas is a relatively new way to get energy. It has some benefits, some problems, and many question marks! Fracking for shale can make the United States completely on their own for getting energy. We have enough shale reserves to become independent from other countries. It is estimated that we have about 1.8 trillion barrels of shale gas, while Saudi Arabia has about 2.6 trillion of oil. Some major problems are water pollution, because it requires a lot of water, a high amount of emissions, and shale fracking is linked to earthquakes. Some important benefits are the jobs it will create, and that it is cleaner than most other fossil fuels.
I think it should be explored a little bit more, but it should not be relied on entirely. We can still use foreign natural gas, but shale should be used more to help reduce the pollution, and to create jobs for the economy.

I completely agree with Jordan on this topic. I think that we should definately NOT rely on this new type of fracking because it is a farely new way of getting energy,there are problems with it, and there are many things that are unknown about it. Even though we have enough shale reserves to become independent from other countries, I strongly believe that we should not rely on this for energy because it is a new technique that has many unknown problems.

BUT, I do not think that we should rely on this method because it has many unknown problems because it is a new technique, therefore it is not a reliable method.

I agree with Jordan. While a better economy would be nice, we dont want to have a lot of pollution, and earthquakes would not be very good. We should experiment with it first, possibly figuring out a way to make it more eco-friendly. If we can become independent, it would be nice, but if all of our water is polluted, we would have to spend tons of money to fix it.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 1: I think we should definetely consider it, but do not entirely rely on it. It could be completely devastating, or very helpful.
i deninitely agree with jordan, because the environment should be the number one priority. Before we try using this as a new major source of energy, it needs to become safer. Controlled testing should be done first so all the problems can be found before it is used for energy.
